INTO THE WILD

TRUST COMES FIRST

People dream about safari, but the first question is always: who can I trust to get me there? Africa feels far away and unfamiliar. For many Australians it comes loaded with uncertainty about safety, logistics, and where to even begin. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, trust is the foundation of the purchase decision.

The founders and your guides:

Shilen & Sahel Haria

Peponi was born from a desire to bridge two worlds:
Kenya, with its wild beauty and deep cultural heritage, and Australia, with travellers who value authenticity, quality and meaningful experiences.

Growing up, safari wasn’t an event. It was part of life. Early mornings, dust on the road, the quiet anticipation of what the day might reveal. That connection never faded — even after more than 25 years living in Australia.

Two men posing outdoors in front of a mountain landscape, one wearing a green t-shirt and black backpack, the other in a white t-shirt making a shaka gesture.

Sahel Haria

Host|Connector|Storyteller

Born in Kenya and now based in Australia, Sahel has been exploring the wilds of Africa since childhood. With a deep respect for nature and a lifelong curiosity about the world, he has travelled to over 40 countries, seeking experiences that are authentic, immersive, and transformative.

For Sahel, Peponi is not a tourism company — it’s an invitation into his family’s special place. He ensures every journey is warm, personal and thoughtfully designed, from your first phone call to your final day in the Mara.

Sahel’s vision for Peponi Safaris is simple: to create journeys that connect people with the majesty of Kenya and the wider African wilderness, in a way that is personal, thoughtful, and ethical.

Passionate about wildlife conservation, he ensures that every safari contributes meaningfully to protecting Africa’s incredible landscapes and creatures, while allowing guests to experience the Mara as it was meant to be — untamed, intimate, and unforgettable

Shilen Haria

Photographer|Mentor|Guide

Shilen Haria’s connection to the Kenyan wilderness began long before he ever picked up a camera. Raised in Kenya, he grew up exploring its national parks and game reserves, developing a deep familiarity with the landscapes, wildlife, and rhythms of East Africa. The Kenyan bush was not a destination, it was part of life.

His understanding of Kenya’s wildlife was shaped by decades of observation. Since then, Shilen has returned to Kenya numerous times to photograph its extraordinary wildlife, sweeping landscapes, and the people who call it home, bringing together lived experience and refined technical craft.

His approach in the field is grounded in that long relationship with the land. He teaches guests how to read behaviour, anticipate movement, and work with natural light — skills informed not just by photography, but by years spent watching the bush unfold. For Shilen, photography is a way of reconnecting people to a place that shaped him.

Deeply committed to ethical wildlife viewing and conservation, he leads each safari with patience, insight, and respect — ensuring that every journey honours both the environment and the communities that protect it.

Together, Sahel and Shilen offer something few operators can …

We are not a booking engine, we are not a faceless travel brand, we are the founders, and we are the experience.

From the first conversation to the final game drive, every guest engages directly with the people behind Peponi. There is no handover, no outsourcing of care, and no distance between intention and delivery. What we promise is what we personally stand behind.

Guests return home as stronger travellers and photographers, yes — but more importantly, as more aware. They leave with a deeper appreciation of Africa’s landscapes, its wildlife, its cultures, and its complexity. That shift in understanding matters.

Peponi exists to share what we know and love: the rhythm of the Mara at dawn, the silence before a predator moves, the generosity of Kenyan hospitality, and the perspective that comes from stepping outside one’s familiar world.

Showing people our special place is a privilege. Helping them see it, and the world differently, is our purpose.

A safari that feels like being hosted, not handled.

A journey guided by personal relationships with the land, the people, and the wildlife.

This is Kenya as we know it, and as we would love to share it with you.

That is the foundation of Peponi Safaris.
