The Peponi Photography Experience

See Kenya Differently

The Peponi Safari, structured around photography.

What makes the Photography Experience different?

MORE TIME

More time at good sightings - When conditions allow, we give a promising sighting time to develop rather than immediately moving on.

BETTER POSITIONING

Photography influences where we place the vehicle - Light, background, angle and anticipated animal movement all help determine how we approach a sighting.

DEDICATED GUIDANCE

Learn while you photograph - Shilen provides practical guidance and feedback in the field, tailored to your experience, equipment and photographic goals.

A small-group journey for photographers who want more time at sightings, thoughtful positioning and practical guidance in the field from wildlife and landscape photographer Shilen Haria.

Same Peponi journey. A different focus.

Hosted by Shilen

Born and raised in Kenya, Shilen combines a lifelong connection to its wildlife and landscapes with many years behind the camera.

His work has received recognition in the Sony World Photography Awards, with several of those images featured throughout this website.

His approach is practical and field-based. Rather than simply suggesting camera settings, Shilen helps you understand behaviour, light, positioning and what may happen next — so you are better prepared when the moment arrives.

What you’ll develop

BEHAVIOUR & ANTICIPATION

Learn to read movement and animal behaviour so you can prepare before the moment happens.

LIGHT & EXPOSURE

Work confidently with changing light and understand how it affects exposure, mood and the image.

COMPOSITION & PERSPECTIVE

Use background, space, angle and environmental context to create stronger photographs.

MOVEMENT & STORYTELLING

Develop the skills to photograph action while creating images that communicate behaviour, place and atmosphere.

A Day Behind the Lens

Before Sunrise
Head out as the first light begins to transform the landscape.

In the Field
Work sightings patiently, considering behaviour, light, position and background.

Midday Reset
Return to the lodge to rest, recharge and review selected images.

Golden Hour
Head back into the field as the light softens and wildlife becomes active.

Review & Refine
Discuss what worked, what didn't and what you can take into the next game drive.

You do not need to be an expert.

The experience is designed for photographers of different experience levels — from those developing their skills to experienced enthusiasts who value time in the field and want to refine their approach.

No classroom. No pressure. Just learning by photographing.
