Who we are
Peponi Safaris is a family-run company founded by Sahel Haria and Shilen Haria — both born in Kenya, both shaped by the landscapes, wildlife and rhythms of East Africa.
Growing up, safari wasn’t an event. It was part of life. Early mornings, dust on the road, the quiet anticipation of what the day might reveal. That connection never faded — even after more than 25 years living in Australia.
Peponi was born from a desire to bridge two worlds:
Kenya, with its wild beauty and deep cultural heritage, and Australia, with travellers who value authenticity, quality and meaningful experiences.
A Different Philosophy
We don’t believe in rushing wildlife, over-packing itineraries or maximising guest numbers.
We believe in slowing down, observing, listening, and allowing the Mara to reveal itself.
Our safaris are designed with intention:
Small groups
Exceptional local guides
Thoughtful accommodation
Delicious meals
Ethical wildlife practices
Space to simply be present
Meet the Directors
Sahel Haria
Co-Founder & Director
Born in Kenya and now based in Australia, Sahel has been exploring the wilds of Africa since childhood. With a deep respect for nature and a lifelong curiosity about the world, he has travelled to over 40 countries, seeking experiences that are authentic, immersive, and transformative.
Sahel’s vision for Peponi Safaris is simple: to create journeys that connect people with the majesty of Kenya and the wider African wilderness, in a way that is personal, thoughtful, and ethical. Passionate about wildlife conservation, he ensures that every safari contributes meaningfully to protecting Africa’s incredible landscapes and creatures, while allowing guests to experience the Mara as it was meant to be — untamed, intimate, and unforgettable.
Shilen Haria
Co-Founder & Director
Shilen is a Sony recognised wildlife and landscape photographer with over 20 years’ experience capturing the magic of Africa and Australia. An avid traveller and seeker of the paths less taken, he thrives in open wilderness, where every sunrise and every animal encounter offers a new story to tell. Shilen’s passion is teaching others how to truly see — not just photograph — the world around them.
On location, he guides small groups with patience and insight, helping them create images that capture the soul of the Mara. Beyond the lens, Shilen is deeply committed to ethical wildlife viewing and conservation, ensuring that every journey nurtures both the land and the people who protect it.
Together, Sahel and Shilen share a lifelong connection to Kenya’s landscapes, a love of wildlife, and a desire to share Africa’s magic with like-minded explorers. Through Peponi Safaris, they invite guests to witness nature in its raw beauty, and create memories — and photographs — that will last a lifetime.
